Darren Turner

Executive Director, National Security Agency

CURRENT POSITION: Mr. Turner serves as the Executive Director of the National Security Agency. In this capacity, he works with the Agency’s Director and Deputy Director to provide leadership in all areas of the enterprise and to represent NSA’s interests both internally and externally.

PRIOR POSITIONS: Mr. Turner previously served as the NSA Senior Representative to U.S. INDO-PACIFIC COMMAND (USINDOPACOM).
Mr. Turner’s NSA career, has encompassed a variety of key leadership roles across the Agency, including Chief of Critical Networks Defense, Director of NSA/CSS Colorado (NSAC), NSA/CSS Representative to U.S. CYBERCOM, Chief for Telecommunications Network Technologies, Director for Intelligence Programs on the National Security Council staff; and five years as NSA’s Global Capabilities Manager for South Asia.
Prior to starting his NSA civilian career, Mr. Turner served in the United States Navy for 28 years. His assignments included surface warfare, cryptology, information warfare, resource management, and Command. Sea assignments included unit, task force, and fleet staff positions, deploying to the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Shore assignments included positions at the National Reconnaissance Office, managing the global Tactical Data Dissemination System; the NSA; and the Bureau of Naval Personnel. Senior leadership tours included Command of Naval Security Group Activity Pearl Harbor, on the staff of Commander Naval Security Group Command/Naval Network Warfare Command as the Human Capital Strategist, and, as the Deputy NSA/CSS Representative to the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

  • Master of Science degree in Joint Command, Control, and Communications from the Naval Postgraduate School (1992)
