2017 National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Release No: PA-012-18 Oct. 2, 2017 PRINT | E-MAIL

October is the 14th annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), a month-long effort to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity and of individual cyber safety practices. The capability to navigate today's digital, global world, where citizens connect across continents instantly with a touchscreen, has brought exponentially greater conveniences and exponentially greater security challenges as well. Online safety is "Our Shared Responsibility" - this year's theme. Everyone must play a role.

The National Security Agency (NSA), along with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is committed to working regularly with our allies, academia, and industry partners to strengthen cybersecurity awareness. NSA remains postured to anticipate and detect threats to cybersecurity and to thwart active attacks against our national security networks, while protecting individuals' privacy and civil liberties.

Strong cybersecurity practices, critical to national security, are the building blocks of the work we do. You, too, must make online safety a priority. Discover strategies to protect your digital privacy and stay safe online. Check out www.dhs.gov/stopthinkconnect and NSA Tweets for tips and techniques to keep you and your family safe in cyber space and to learn how you can get involved!

Activities and awareness efforts follow five weekly themes of 2017 National Cyber Security Awareness Month:

  • Week 1 - Simple Steps to Online Safety
  • Week 2 - Cybersecurity in the Workplace is Everyone's Business
  • Week 3 - Today's Predictions for Tomorrow's Internet
  • Week 4 - The Internet Wants YOU; Consider a Career in Cybersecurity
  • Week 5 - Protecting Critical Infrastructure from Cyber Threats

Remember - Cybersecurity is "Our Shared Responsibility!"
