NSA Named Agency of the Year for Combined Federal Campaign

NSA has been named the Combined Federal Campaign’s (CFC) “Agency of the Year” for 2019. NSA also earned the “National CFC Innovation Award” and was the only agency in the Chesapeake Bay Area CFC to be awarded the “Million Dollar Circle Award,” for raising well over a million dollars.

During the 2019 campaign, which ran from October to December, the NSA workforce donated $2.2 million in monetary gifts and volunteer hours to national and local charities. The Agency is one of only 34 federal agencies nationwide, out of nearly 800, to be named to the “Million Dollar Circle.” 

 “I am incredibly proud of our team. They were determined to ensure NSAers continued to make a difference for our communities, so they brainstormed together to find new and exciting ways to let people know what the CFC is all about and how people could help,” said Judi Emmel, deputy chief of Legislative, State, Local & Academic Engagement, and vice chairman of NSA’s CFC. “Whether with monetary donations or time volunteered at charities, the NSA workforce always steps it up.”


The CFC is an annual campaign that gives Federal workers across the country the opportunity to support their favorite charities. Several highly competitive awards are given at the end of the campaign each year by the Office of Personnel Management, which runs the Federal program.

NSA received the Innovation Award for displaying creativity and excellence in this year’s campaign. The Agency of the Year Award was given for stellar campaign results deriving from innovative and creative leadership, planning, and increased engagement of volunteers. Several NSA CFC volunteers and leaders were also recognized for their contributions to the campaign.

“I am so excited that NSA was recognized for the hard work and generosity that so many people put into the campaign,” said Karen Morsberger, program manager for NSA’s CFC.

During the 2019 campaign, the team at NSA developed and implemented a forward-looking model in which over 35 CFC educational events were hosted at levels from directorate to office, increasing knowledge of, and engagement with, the CFC across NSA, according to Ms. Morsberger.

Four NSA employees were given the “Most Valuable Volunteer Award” for their efforts to educate the workforce and increase directorate-level participation. The “Agency Leader Award,” was given to three leaders at NSA for “going the extra mile” to educate and motivate others about the CFC.
