NSA/CSS National Cryptologic Museum Announces New Cell Phone Audio Guide Service

The National Cryptologic Museum (NCM) is proud to announce the new state of the art cell phone audio guide service. The system allows visitors at the NCM to use their cell phones to learn about the fascinating world of cryptology.

While really intended for visitors at the museum to listen to the tour on their cell phones, listeners can call from anywhere in the world to explore such diverse cryptologic related topics as the "Jefferson" Cipher device, the Zimmerman Telegram, the breaking of the Enigma and the Japanese Purple codes during WWII, the Navajo Code Talkers, the Battle of Midway, and the cryptologic aspects of the Korean War.

Visitors can access the tour by dialing 240-396-4186 and entering their desired stop number. This new feature is free except for the use of their cell phone plan minutes. The tour can be accessed multiple times and patrons can provide comments on the tour by simply pressing 0 on their phone.

"We (NCM) are so pleased to offer this exciting service to our visitors," Patrick Weadon, museum curator said. "We get thousands of visitors every year, and we can't give all of them a personal tour. The audio tour allows us to take a step closer to being able to do that," he said.

The National Cryptologic Museum is located at the intersection of Maryland Route 32 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (I-295), adjacent to the headquarters of the National Security Agency. Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Admission is free.
